Pong will be an early alternative way to earn codepoints in ShiftOS rather than only being able to earn codepoints using the Shifter. 

For those interested in the storyline of ShiftOS pong is an game that is used to improve the intelligence of the internal ShiftOS artificial intelligence by studying human behavior in response to this game of pong. Tracking and collecting human behavior is what allows ShiftOS to give you codepoints for playing Pong.

There will be more retro games like pong on an in-game "retro gaming site" that you can buy much later in the game using a digital currency called "bitnotes" (parody of "bitcoin" in real life). Bitnotes will be used to buy software from in game websites while codepoints will remain to be used to buy upgrades from the Shiftorium.
